How it all began

“I think we danced to every song by ABBA that night.”

— Ryan (ABBA superfan)

“He looked like Marty McFly in his jean jacket, so I knew he was the one.”

— Meg (has never seen Back to the Future)

Meg & Ryan

On President’s Day weekend of 2022, Meg and Ryan both saw an online post for a meetup at a legendary East Village venue called the Pyramid Club, which now plays exclusively 80’s music. Their eyes locked from across the dance floor and ‘(I Just) Died in Your Arms Tonight’ by Cutting Crew began to play. They both had the same dance style of pantomiming song lyrics, which caused Meg to fall into Ryan’s arms as the chorus played.

And the rest is history

Meg and Ryan had their first date on President’s Day, where they met at the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian in lower Manhattan. After the museum — not wanting the date to end so soon — Ryan suggested taking a ride on the Staten Island Ferry. This unintentionally began their now monthly tradition of “day dates”, where one person plans an entire day of activity for the other person. They took a ride on the ferry past the Statute of Liberty, had dinner at a charming Italian restaurant, and celebrated their love for kitsch by having cocktails at the Margaritaville ‘5 o’Clock Somewhere Bar’ in Times Square.
